In these uncertain times much is to be learned in and from the corona crisis!

The current corona crisis is causing much suffering and global upheaval. In the midst of all this uncertainty, I see it as our responsibility to learn in, with and from this crisis! In the midst of all these difficulties, let us sow the seeds for a life-sustaining economy and society together!

One of my most important tasks, in research and teaching, is to expose the blind spots in the economy and economic science that aggravate the current crisis and prevent a sustainable handling of it. In addition, I would like to point out possible areas of new economic thinking and action. In this context, take a look at my TEDx lecture from Kassel, in which I explain how the myth of the market hinders our thinking and economic coexistence – and what we can do to counteract it.

Gesellschaftsrelevant studieren

Was die richtigen Fragen?

Socially Relevant Studies

As a university dedicated to social-economic thought and action, academic teaching is, as it were, turned upside down: Instead of abstract knowledge, our courses of study focus on contemporary problems of our crisis-ridden world today. In our studies, these problems are approached in an action-oriented and at the same time theoretically well-versed manner.

With us, students discover ways of thinking and acting in a scientifically sound and at the same time responsible manner – especially when the existing knowledge is uncertain or controversial and the problems are complex. What are the relevant problems anyway? What are the right questions? Here all this is learned by combining methodical scientific knowledge with practical knowledge. „Trandisciplinarity“ is the decisive keyword here.

Forschungsschwerpunkt: Kritik an der Volkswirtschaftslehre / Research Focus: Critique of Standard Economic Education

English

Modern textbook economics has created a true monoculture of thought. Worldwide, it alone introduces the neoclassicism without even mentioning possible alternatives. At the same time, it consistently refrains from teaching economic thinking itself: no history of theory, hardly any methodology, no introduction to alternative perspectives. I consider this kind of economic education to be short-sighted and irresponsible. Consequently, I have criticized it in many ways in my publications as well as in my lectures, and I point out alternatives.

Increasingly, there is also a discussion about research and teaching in economics.
